ORPC Members,
We have had a very positive response to our initiative to re-start kids' Range Days. Thank you to everyone who responded!
Starting January 7, 2023, we are pleased to offer a kids only rimfire/air rifle time on the first Saturday of the month from 2pm-4pm.
• To book a reservation for a lane, please email the Bookings email
• Also, if you need to cancel a booking, please email the Bookings email
• Please bring your own firearm (rimfire or air rifle only) and be present to supervise your minor child in the Range/ lane (direct control)
• Age ranges so far are from 6 to 19+. This is a great opportunity for parents, guardians and grandparents to introduce the next generation to firearms safety and FUN.
• We will have the Google calendar updated to include Kids Range Days soon, see http://www.okotoksgunclub.com/bookings/
• Our Range Officer will be running the Range times and be available for any questions and demonstrations.

President's Message
To all ORPC club members. ORPC general policy is not to get embroiled in politics, so we try and minimize general group messages. Understandably not all firearms owners are interested in the same topics, or firearm related activities. Some of us are just members for fun, hunting or RPAL purposes. We run under the radar, and enjoy the club. Although the current government policy changes will not immediately impact the club, indications are that the next planned steps will impact ALL of us.
As members we all need to understand that the ultimate goal of the anti-firearms groups, and unfortunately by extension, the current government, is not to ban “bad” firearms. The goal is to ban ALL firearms. First it will be the “bad” semi-autos, then all semi-autos, then handguns, the pump actions, etc. There are good examples in the world where this took place. They will do this by direct legislation, and indirectly by giving local government the tools to do so.
What can you do?
- Get everyone you know to sign Petition E-2574
- Join active firearm organizations
- Join a party that can make a difference on this issue. Your options are severely limited!
- Write letters, especially to Jason Kenney and your Alberta MLA
- Do not support the CBC in any form or fashion. They track viewer numbers on your subscription, so simply avoid or block those channels.
- Appeal any restrictions that come, if there is a legal avenue to do so
- Stress that this is not a firearms issue, it is a property/personal freedom issue
Please get involved so that we collectively can start changing the narrative that has been controlled by:
- The “anti-groups”
- The politicians
- The mainstream media
How?
- Request proper investigative (factual) reporting from your local and national newspapers. If they don’t respond, cancel your membership/subscription, and state why. You can get news from other sources. If you have a business, and advertise, threaten to remove your business
- Change the theme from emotion to facts. Be aggressive, but factual. Respond to emotional “flaming” by challenging with facts. Call out emotional arguments but do not get personal, or revert to “red neck” behavior. The simple truth is that when people are losing the factual argument, they revert to emotional arguments. But you must know your facts – on both sides. (And most of us do not.) So familiarize yourself with the work of Gary Mauser – he’s done excellent research debunking the common myths
- Emotion. Remember that politicians rely on emotion. The media flourish on drama and tragedy. Voting is based on emotion. Politicians care about positive media coverage and their “image” (power), and grass roots voters (re-election). Once the non-traditional media picks up the facts, mainstream will have to follow. Once they follow, the politicians will follow
Let’s be clear – The government will not back down unless the politicians' survival is at risk. Doubling down when they’ve made a decision has been the trend. Facts do not matter.
Stick to the facts. Change the narrative. Support the organizations that support us. Be vocal with politicians!
ACT!
